Overview of Akshardham Temple
Inaugurated on 6th November 2005 by Pramukh Swami Maharaj, the spiritual leader of the Bochasanwasi Shri Akshar Purushottam Swaminarayan Sanstha (BAPS), Akshardham is dedicated to Bhagwan Swaminarayan (1781–1830), a revered yogi and spiritual master.
The temple complex spans over 100 acres and was constructed with the efforts of more than 8,000 volunteers from across the world. Every inch of the structure is built using traditional techniques and no steel was used, symbolizing purity and endurance.
Architectural Brilliance
The central attraction of the Akshardham complex is the Swaminarayan Mandir, constructed entirely from pink sandstone and white marble. The pink sandstone represents bhakti (devotion), while the white marble represents purity and eternal peace.
